MINNEAPOLIS, Dec. 15, 2008 — What can we learn from horses about leading organizations, building teams and reaching our full potential, personally and professionally? Plenty.

Wisdom Horse® Coaching, a leading equine-guided coaching practice based in Minnesota, will be at White Stallion Ranch, 9251 W. Twin Peaks Road, Tucson, Jan. 6-17 to conduct demos of equine-guided leadership training and to facilitate family and personal retreats.

At an open demo Friday, Jan. 9, 9:30-11 a.m., Wisdom Horse Coaching founders Lynn Baskfield and Ann Romberg, will demonstrate how equine-guided leadership training works and why it’s an effective, exciting new resource for coaches, corporations and executives.

Cost of the leadership demo is $25. Refreshments following. Registration by calling Carol Moore, 520-297-0252.

In a separate event, Baskfield and Romberg will conduct a demo for the Tucson Convention and Visitors Bureau to show how horse-guided coaching can be an attractive resource for corporate visitors to the Tucson area.

Equine Guided Education (EGE) and Coaching is the respectful application of “horse sense” to human growth and learning. It uses experiential activities involving horses to create metaphors that reflect real life. The approach is non-directive, allowing for opportunities to problem-solve and be creative. Equine-guided coaching is solution-oriented and acknowledges the power of choice.

Horses are intuitive beings who can show humans in an instant when we are fooling ourselves and when we are on the right track. As herd animals attuned for survival to the slightest inconsistency in their environment, horses mirror back to us inconsistent behaviors that stop us from moving forward.

Wisdom Horse Coaching programs are customized to address specific needs of leaders and their teams. Clients leave a session with insights they can apply immediately to their lives. All activities are done on the ground. No horseback riding.

Baskfield and Romberg are certified life and equine-guided education coaches. Their clients include major corporations, including Wells Fargo and Medtronic, as well as smaller businesses, entrepreneurs and individuals. Their clients are in varied industries including healthcare, education, insurance, banking and finance, energy, lumber and hospitality.

Minn. Coaches Assn. Sponsors First-Hoof Experience in Equine-Guided Education
MINNEAPOLIS, Aug. 25, 2008 — Horses who coach humans to reach their potential will introduce equine-guided education to the Minnesota Coaches Association (MCA) and some members of the public on Saturday, Sept. 6, at a demo and workshop hosted by Wisdom Horse Coaching, a Twin Cities-based practice.

Sponsored by the MCA Social Action, Learning and Transformation Team, the event will be at Hawk’s Ridge Ranch, 457 County Road U, in Hudson, Wis. The morning session is from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. (An afternoon session is already filled.)

Fees are $45 for association members, $55 for non-members. Not all participants will directly interact with horses, but observers will be given directions that enable them to engage powerfully in the experience. Registration is at minnesotacoaches.org

The principle of equine-guided education is that horse-human interactions on the ground — there’s no riding involved — reflect the human’s behavior in everyday life. Through exercises such as getting horses to move from one end of the paddock to the other without lead lines or to perform low jumps, people develop insights that can help them achieve goals and reach their potential. Human coaches provide skilled observation and feedback.
Lynn Baskfield and Ann Romberg, owners of Wisdom Horse Coaching, will lead the demo and workshop. Both are certified life coaches, as well as certified equine-guided education coaches. They are members of the Equine Guided Education Association and the International Coach Federation. Their clients are in healthcare, education, insurance, banking and finance, energy, lumber and hospitality. Corporate clients include Wells Fargo, Medtronic and St. Paul Travelers Companies. Home base is Hawk's Ridge Ranch. They also conduct workshops at locations convenient to clients throughout the country and run an apprenticeship program.
The Minnesota Coaches Association is the premier professional association for over 260 life, business, executive and relationship coaches in Minnesota and neighboring states. Through its programs of education, personal development, and networking, it promotes the visibility and quality of professional coaching. Its members serve individuals, couples and companies throughout the Upper Midwest, supporting them in achieving their goals, transforming their relationships and fulfilling their dreams.

Horses Lead the Way in Executive Leadership Training Program

MINNEAPOLIS, May 29, 2008 — You can lead a horse to water, the saying goes, but two Minnesota-based equine guided education coaches say horses are naturals at coaching executives to sharpen their leadership skills—without the executives ever getting on horseback.

In June, Lynn Baskfield and Ann Romberg of Wisdom Horse Coaching are launching an equine guided program for upper-level executives and entrepreneurs, building on WHC’s five years of success with equine guided corporate training workshops for clients that include Wells Fargo, Medtronic and St. Paul Travelers Companies.

“People at the top have achieved a great level of success, but that can be isolating,” says Baskfield. “Horses have no agenda. They let you know, without judgment, when you are fooling yourself and when you are on the right track.”

The basic principle of equine guided corporate coaching is that horse-human interactions reflect the human’s behavior in the workplace. Through exercises with horses—such as getting them to move from one end of the paddock to the other without lead lines or to perform low jumps—people develop insights that can help them achieve goals and reach their potential in leadership and life. Human coaches provide skilled observation and feedback.

“It’s experiential learning that sticks,” says Romberg, who spent 20 years in corporate life before becoming a life and learning coach. “Most people have had enough training sessions in paneled rooms. Horses have no Powerpoint presentations, but they’re incredibly intuitive at zeroing in on human strengths and challenges.”

WHC’s executive leadership program will be more individualized than its corporate workshops, which typically focus on team building, collaborative problem solving and communication.

A top-level executive might be struggling with deeper professional challenges such as bringing a human face to the workplace while dealing with the bottom line or trying to find answers to gnawing questions: What is my legacy? How can I be a person who lives their values? How can I run this business without running my people ragged? How can I work more effectively with my board?

Baskfield was a lifelong entrepreneur before becoming a certified coach. Both she and Romberg are also certified equine guided education coaches and have master’s degrees. They participate in on-going research studies on effectiveness of equine guided learning.

This summer’s executive leadership program will be four months long. A group of five executives will get together as a group occasionally but mostly work one-on-one with a horse. Wisdom Horse Coaching expects to expand quickly into six- and 12-month programs.

Baskfield and Romberg merged their coaching practices in 2003 to form Wisdom Horse Coaching. Their clients are in healthcare, education, insurance, banking and finance, energy, lumber and hospitality.

They are members of the Equine Guided Education Association and also run an apprenticeship program. The home base for Wisdom Horse Coaching is at Hawk’s Ridge Ranch, near the St. Croix River in Hudson, Wisconsin, 30 minutes from Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport. Baskfield and Romberg also conduct workshops in other locations around the country.
