            Greetings!
Welcome!
Nine Equine Guided Educators gathered in Wisconsin this
month to begin some breakthrough research. In this issue
learn how we are beginning to measure how horses take us
from stress to balance in just minutes.

What is LSA?

The Limbic Stress Assessment (LSA) was developed to measure
the body's stress system. Much like a polygraph, the LSA
uses a Glavanic Skin Response to "ask" the body questions
and measure how it responds. By placing the hand on a
'plate', the machine reads the entire body. This
information is then used by the system to create a stress
profile (physical, mental, emotional and spiritual).
Possible balancing solutions (remedies) are factored in and
the machine measures the body's response to determine which
ones will best bring the stressed areas back into balance.
There are thousands of remedies that can be scanned for
each person-- from allopathic, naturopathic, vitamin and
food based to sound, color and light.
"Remedies" that are not already programmed into the machine
can be entered via another plate. Horse hair (which
contains the energetic DNA from each of the 5 horses we
worked with) was "loaded" into the system as a remedy.

As described in the article to the right, the horses were
effective remedies for all those who participated.

What is Heart Math?

HeartMath research has shown that emotions are reflected in
our heart rhythm patterns. Negative emotions lead to
increased disorder in the nervous system and in the heart's
rhythms, which adversely affects our body and health. But
positive feelings increase harmony and coherence in the
nervous system. Based on this research, The emWave® PC
heart rhythm monitor was developed to help people recover
more quickly from health challenges and prevent, manage and
reverse the negative effects of stress.

Simply said, The emWave PC teaches you how to get your head
and heart in sync.

What we are up to

Our Open House Aug 18 at Hawk's Ridge revealed a fabulous
array of integrated wellness and education services.
Participants commented on the powerful flow from health
assessments to body work to equine guided coaching and how
this array of services genuinely supports people in finding
health and happiness.
If you haven't seen our new DVD and would like to please
let us know and we will send you a copy.

Horses - an amazing remedy for stress

There are references in this article to equipment and
concepts explained in the articles to your left. Please
refer to them for full explanation of terms.

On Sept. 15-17, nine Equine Guided Educators from
Minnesota, Wisconsin and Scotland gathered at Hawk's Ridge,
our home facility, to begin breakthrough research. Using
ourselves as subjects, we were hooked up to two machines
that could measure our stress levels before and after being
with horses. Our preliminary findings suggest that just
being with horses brings stress levels fully back into
balance or moves them toward balance.
Beth Duff from Scotland is just beginning her Ph.D. and was
in the USA to collect ideas and data to begin her research
into the effects horses have on humans. Beth brought Heart
Math equipment and Dr. Su Wahl, the naturopath who owns
Hawk's Ridge, provided the Limbic Stress Assessment (LSA)
system. Lynn and Ann coordinated meals and logistics. Other
participants included Susan Motzko, Beth Peterson, Deb
Reynolds and Larry Freeborg. Nancy Peregrine, a Wisdom
Horse apprentice, took over 300 photographs. In the
evenings we talked about what we were learning and shared
ideas around the bountiful table Bob Kokott, organic chef
extraordinaire, prepared for us.
Using the sophisticated LSA computer system we had our
stress levels assessed by Dr. Su's daughter, Jesse, who is
herself studying to become a naturopath. Then we hung out
with five horses (who, by the way had all gotten out of
their pasture and were waiting by the barn the morning we
started, insisting we work with them, not the usual herd).
After about 45 minutes with the horses, we had our stress
levels reassessed.

The first day with the horses we didn't know which horse
was our "remedy". We just noticed which horse came to us
and which horses we were attracted to. The second time
working with the LSA, we were told which horse would most
likely bring us back into balance. Within the small herd,
we spent most of our time with that horse.

Though it's hard to tell conclusively because other horses
were present, it is beginning to look like the horse
designated the remedy most significantly brought our stress
back into balance. We are looking forward to refining our
approach over time and having the client work one-on-one
with the most energetically resonant "remedy" horse.
Another day we were connected to a computerized Heart Math
Monitor which told us when we were in "coherence," i.e., a
place of heart-centered authenticity. (Of course the horses
do this all the time!) This gave us an new experience of
seeing when we are in our heads and when we are in our
hearts. After that we spent time with the horses while
hooked to a portable Heart Math monitor to discover which
horses and what activities with the horses most brought our
heart rates into the "blue" and "green" areas (most
coherent).
The weekend gave us a glimpse into being able to quantify
what so many clients and practioners of EGE know from
experience: horses heal humans. Beth Duff will continue to
work with Dr. Su throughout her Ph.D. program. We are
excited and delighted to be part of this leading edge work.

We are putting together a DVD to capture the work we did in
September and will hopefully show it and share what we are
learning at the EGEA conference in January.
