Ever Notice What a Horse Holds On To?

Do you ever find yourself struggling to let go of the old? Old things in your house? Old beliefs you've had since you were 10? A grudge you've held for years and can't remember why now?

Mostly, I think we are afraid that if we let go of something, we will end up with nothing to replace it, when in reality, letting go simply allows room for the next thing to come in. If we don't let go we get stuck.

I've really gotten this lesson in my move this summer as I sorted through twenty some years of stuff. At first I resisted letting so much go. Then, as each item went to the Goodwill or to friends and family, it was freeing to have less to take with me to my new home.

Horses are masters of letting go. Ever notice how they hold onto nothing? After an intense fear reaction -- that wild turkey perhaps -- they shake, poop or roll it off and VOILA the fear is GONE! They remain in the present eating grass or lying in the sun.

What will you let go of this month, this week, this moment? I want to see you all rolling on the ground!

Summer Notes from Ann and Lynn

Ann spent most of July sorting and savoring memories from her big family home of 17 years. Hony Cat (shown above) could hardly wait to get moved. Both (along with Ann's other two cats) are now comfortably living in a smaller townhome and loving it.

Lynn took a week off in July--a sabbatical, she called it, taking to heart that the original meaning of Sabbath meant to celebrate life. She stayed home, picked raspberries, read books, painted a lawn chair, rode her horse, and danced. She remembered how much happens in her soul when her mind is at pasture and she is going to take a sabbatical every three months from here on out. Miracles are afoot.
