Autumn is upon us. The leaves are a beautiful blaze of oranges, reds, gold, and yellows. Nature is preparing us for its long winter with a party of colors! Take some time to really look and enjoy. This is a wonderful time to plan and prepare for what is next.
Planning is happening everywhere for holidays and celebrations. Don't forget to plan also, for time to reflect. It's easy to let that get away. And reflection essential to navigating change and remembering center.
Let the changing colors prepare you for changes in your life and business. Make this season a good one!

Join us at the Equine Guided Education Conference
Ann and Lynn will be demonstrating an equine guided ritual based on the Native American Medicine Wheel at the 2010 International Equine Guided Education Conference January 27 - 30 in Sonoma County, CA.
Within the context of a profession that holds the horse as healer and teacher, there will be demonstrations by the presidents of EAGALA,EFMHA AND EGEA, discussions of different facilitation styles, and presentations from EGE leaders from around the country on the different aspects of working with horses as healers and teachers.
Rupert Isaacson, author of The Horse Boy will speak on "The Power of Faith and the Gift of Horses" followed by a presentation by Lynn Baskfield and others on the transformational power of "Creating and Teaching Storytelling in EGE."
We'd love to see you there. It's a phenomenal educational experience for anyone in our profession.

Did You Know...?
The average horse's heart weighs approximately 9 or 10 pounds. The great American racehorse Secretariat had a heart estimated during his autopsy to weigh 21 pounds.
The human heart's electrical field is 60 times greater than the electrical field generated by the brain. The heart's magnetic field is 5,000 times stronger than the brain's magnetic field and can be detected several feet beyond the body in all directions.
Scientists have noticed that living beings exchange information through this field, even to the point of synchronizing heartbeats during interactions.
Horses instantly mirror when a client is in a heart place, sometimes crossing an entire pasture -- at liberty -- to touch soft muzzle to undefended heart.
Wisdom Horse Coaching Wins SuperCHICK Business Innovation award
The RICH CHICKS SuperCHICK awards recognize women of all ages who have added richness to their own lives and the lives of others by their actions and accomplishments.
On October 10, Lynn was awarded the SuperCHICK Business Innovation award for her part in the development of Wisdom Horse Coaching and the difference bringing the horses to women entrepreneurs has made in their personal and business growth.

When the Red Horse Spoke - New book By Beth Duff
"When the red horse spoke - bringing learning with horses from dream to reality" by Beth Duff, our colleague from Scotland has now been published. There is a great deal of useful information for those interested in learning with horses, whether as participants or practitioners. More generally, it will also inspire entrepreneurs who have an innovative idea of any kind that they want to take to market. It is available on the Wisdom Horse Store or can be ordered through Author House.

This time of year, Lynn's thoughts go to her daughter, Louise. Louise's birthday just passed and the anniversary of her death is fast approaching. Though time passes and the heart heals, a mother's love lives and the loss remains. One of the best things Louise could say about her mom was "She taught me to ride." Often they rode together. Here is a poem Lynn wrote in Louise's memory.
First Ride of Spring
I found you still shaggy from winter
below the hill, behind the wind.
Ears forward, you waited
as I walked toward you,
weeping.
So many summers
my daughter flew with the wind
astride your strong back,
I on a horse beside her.
The two of us knew the woods
as we knew each other-
wild and mysterious and familiar-
silent except for the crackle
of leaves underfoot,
sometimes a song, lush words
Or the sting of a thorny branch.
Your kind brown eyes cradle my heart.
You lip my cheek,
as close to a kiss as a horse can get.
I brush the spring mud from your belly,
lean my shoulder into yours at the rail,
hug your neck as if you
could carry her slim body back again,
her legs wrapped soundly around you,
her face lifted to the wind,
flying,
flying home.
